Learn new things and have fun!  Who knows, maybe one of your students will go on to become a real inventor!

ideas4ears is a great learning opportunity for students

For my project, I learned more about the technology involved as well as the biology in hearing, while also learning about teamwork when I needed to ask for help with specific things. Doing this activity, learning and creating the ideas really covers a broad spectrum of different learning ideas in general.”

“To motivate kids my age, I would say, not only does it help you learn, it helps you to become smarter. And it’s also very fun to invent, and it can also solve many problems…Participating in the ideas4ears competition has inspired me to continue to invent and discover solutions to problems in the world around me…Since winning the ideas4ears competition, I have come up with many other inventions. My advice to other inspiring inventors would be to look around, be inspired, and create inventions that make the world a better place.”

Who´s behind ideas4ears?

MED-EL Medical Electronics, a leader in implantable hearing solutions, is driven by a mission to overcome hearing loss as a barrier to communication. The Austrian-based, privately owned business was co-founded by industry pioneers Ingeborg and Erwin Hochmair, whose ground-breaking research led to the development of the world’s first micro-electronic multi-channel cochlear implant (CI), which was successfully implanted in 1977 and was the basis for what is known as the modern CI today. This laid the foundation for the successful growth of the company in 1990, when they hired their first employees. To date, MED-EL has grown to more than 2,200 employees from around 75 nations and has 30 locations worldwide.

Innovation – the basis for cochlear implant progress

Innovation is essential when exploring ways to improve the lives of those with hearing loss and the ideas4ears competition has raised awareness of the benefits of hearing technology.

Whilst celebrating children’s creativity, ideas4ears aimed to engage parents to participate in an interactive activity with their children to improve the whole family’s understanding of the challenges associated with hearing loss and deafness as well as the benefits of treatment.
